1st Nine Weeks Learning Objectives for Literacy:
Grammar- Students will review parts of speech, identify and apply adjectives, identify and apply prepositions, choose and apply parts of speech in sentences correctly. Reading- Students will review Reading Comprehension Strategies and begin Literature Circles. Students will discuss their thoughts and feelings about assigned reading. Students will also listen and respond when appropriate to peer discussion. Students will evaluate character traits and settings while reading. They will examine points of view in multiple texts. In nonfiction reading students will review text features and identify them in multiple sources. Students will reading for enjoyment for at least 30 mins. daily. Spelling and Greek and Latin- Students will study Greek and Latin roots and identify several vocabulary terms with common roots. Students will continue to practice spelling and the rules implied. Writing- Students will organize thoughts during pre writing practice. They will use multiple organization techniques. Students will examine multiple examples of descriptive writing in preparation of writing their own descriptive writing.
1st Nine weeks Learning Objectives for Social Studies:
Students will begin the year with an Arkansas History unit. This comprehensive unit will cover the study of people, places and important events in Arkansas. We will plan to examine Arkansas through the eyes of early settlers and Native Americans. Students will experience first hand, a harvest of peanuts, cotton and beans through a field trip to a local farm.
