Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33
Third and Fourth Grade students are taking off in their learning! They are becoming more independent in their assignments! Working in a classroom with two grades allows the students to hear a review when the younger class is learning AND ALSO to be introduced to new ideas when the older class is learning. Since the teacher is working with one group, the students develop the ability to focus and work through their learning on their own and later come back as a group to visit the concepts.
Literacy Students will use many strategies to comprehend a wide variety of reading material. They will read, make connections, visualize, question, and monitor their understanding. They will make inferences and draw conclusions. They will be able to summarize the major points. They will build their vocabulary and word analysis to be able to read fluently.
The students will be mastering phonics by the end of fourth grade. They will learn how our language works and apply those rules for spelling as well as decoding. This will be done with many multi-sensory methods which include objects, finger-spelling, and syllable sorts.
In writing we use IEW. IEW is Institute for Excellence in Writing. The students will learn the structure and style of writing and then apply those concepts to their own writing. The program includes a strong grammar component as well.
Math Students will master addition and subtraction in the thousands. Students will learn multiplication through stories and hands on activities. Students will understand division in relation to multiplication and become proficient. Students will write fractions and their equivalent.
